There are two general career paths that outdoor recreation students can pursue: Outdoor Recreation Management and Outdoor Program Administration. Outdoor Recreation Management : public sector employment with federal, state, and local land management agencies.

Outdoor Program Administration : provision of recreational, educational, developmental, and therapeutic adventure programs in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. Students interested in the outdoor recreation management career path are required to minor or pursue 15 credits of Guided Major Electives in areas such as anthropology, biology, communication studies, geographic information sciences GISgeography, geology, graphic design, history, or justice studies.

Recreational Therapists provide recreation and activity interventions to clients who desire to improve their health and quality of life. Recreational Therapy students participate in many experiential opportunities where they observe practitioners in clinical, medical, and community settings as well as participate in disability simulations to gain a greater understanding of the clients they will work with. A major portion of graduate social work education involves field education. As the signature pedagogy, field education is the heart of social work education. Field experiences that blend classroom learning with real world experiences help maximize student growth and competency development. Field education constitutes 16 credits of the 60 credits required to earn the MSW in the full program and 10 of the 40 credits in the advanced standing program.

Our program requires clock hours at a human services organization for generalist field practicum 3 credits each of two semesters and clock hours at an agency for specialization field practicum 5 credits each of two semesters. MSW students enter their generalist field placement in the fall semester and spend two semesters in the same organization.

During the seventh week of fall semester, students begin working one day per week 8 hours at an assigned agency for the remainder of fall semester. Students continue to attend their integrative seminar weekly. During spring semester, students continue at the same field agency two days per week 16 hours the entire semester.

The total clock hours in generalist field education are hours; 72 during fall semester and during spring semester.
